HASTY ATTACK

Use this attack drill when you have made contact with the enemy and the enemy has not been made aware of your presence. You must first go through the decision making matrix: attack, defend and withdrawal. When the decision is attack you will break into two elements, the Base of Fire element and the Flanking element. Once the Flanking element is in position, one element initiates the attack, typically the Flanking element. Once the first element attacks and the enemy has reacted to the threat, the second element attacks. The Flanking element then assaults across the enemy position. The Base of Fire element lifts or shifts fire. Once the Flanking element has assaulted across the enemy position, the Base of Fire element then assaults perpendicular to the Flanking element across the enemy position. Both elements should form a 180 degree perimeter facing away from their starting positions. This creates a natural defensive position on the assaulted target in the case the OPFOR regroups and counterattacks.

Notes: the flanking element does not need to open fire on the target once they are in position. Remember the Hasty Attack is used when the target is unaware of your presence. If the flanking element can stealthily move all the way up within 10 feet, undetected, of the target before taking a shot this is preferred.

Notes: what is contact? Contact is when you see or hear the OPFOR. Shots don’t have to be firing for contact to be made but that is a form of contact. In Hasty attack, contact is made with the OPFOR but the OPFOR hasn’t made contact with you yet. In the next attack drill the OPFOR has made contact with you and you have to react to it.
