MOVEMENT TECHNIQUES

Depending on the combat threat, stealth required or time limiting factor different movement techniques can be employed. Please note however the standard mode of travel when moving from point A to point B is simply walking. Troop fatigue is a very important factor to remember when traveling. Running and crawling typically put extra strain on the troop.

Low Crawl – The low crawl allows for the greatest amount of stealth, presents the smallest target, but also limits combat awareness and is the slowest crawling technique. This technique should be used when enemy fire is at knee height.

High Crawl – The high crawl allows for good stealth, and presents a small target. You do have combat awareness because your head is up and not on the ground. This is also a very slow movement. This technique should be used when enemy fire as at waist height.

Modified Crawl – The modified crawl allows you to get up or down quickly. It is the fastest crawling technique and you do have combat awareness. This technique should be used when enemy fire is at shoulder height.

Bounding and Overwatch - Bounding overwatch is the foundation movment for almost every tactic. You use this travel technique when you come across a danger area. The unit divides into two groups. The first group sets up in a position that allows them to cover the second group as they travel across the area. The first group says, "set" and the second group says, "cover" and begins to move past the first group. Once the second group moves forward into a position they can cover the first group the say, "set" and the first group says, "cover" and they move past the first group. This movment is used until all groups are out of the danger area
